Junior Nationals qualifier Nate Caswell has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of North Carolina beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud with a brief message: “Go Heels!!”
A senior at Allen D. Nease Sr. High School in Ponte Vedra, Florida, Caswell has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming team since his freshman year. He also trains year-round with Planet Swim Aquatics, where he primarily specializes in sprint backstroke and sprint butterfly.
Caswell is coming off a 2025-26 season that saw him drop over three seconds in the 100 back and nearly a second in the 100 fly. He clocked his current personal bests at the Florida Swimming Senior Championships, where he won the 100 back (47.57) and finished 10th in the 100 fly (49.79).
On the high school scene, Caswell helped his high school to fourth in the 200 free relay (21.66 leadoff) and fifth in the 200 medley relay (23.28 leadoff), in addition to taking fifth in the 100 back (50.78) and eighth in the 100 free (47.22) at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A State Championships.
He also competed at the 2025 Winter Juniors – East last December, finishing 77th in the 100 back and 99th in the 100 fly, and at the 2025 Summer Junior Nationals (LCM), where he finished 50th in the 50 back.

A Division I program, North Carolina competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with the men’s team taking eighth out of 14 teams at this past season’s conference championships. His times fall outside the cutoffs needed to score at the meet, with 46.71 required in the 100 back and 46.43 in the 100 fly, though he still has two full seasons of training to go before lining up at his first conference meet.
Caswell joins Issac Adanin, Jack Martin, Hampton Stuecker, Dmitriy Oranskiy, and Daniel Xia in committing to UNC’s class of 2031 so far.
