Teofimo Lopez has dished out a damning verdict on one of his fellow world champions, branding him the most ‘overrated boxer’ at this current moment in time.
Lopez is the current WBO super-lightweight champion, making the most recent defence of his belt with a unanimous decision victory over Arnold Barboza Jr in May.
He also holds notable victories over Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor, but several of his other performances have only left fans wanting more, with lacklustre displays against Sandor Martin, Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett.
Lopez now looks set to return to action in January, with it reported that he will be involved in a mouth-watering super-lightweight battle with WBC world lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.
It appears that Lopez isn’t that big a fan of his rival though, as speaking with Stories Untold, the American was quick to throw dirt on Stevenson, a three-division world champion, while promising to prove his point when they lock horns next year.
“I’ll just say it – I think Shakur Stevenson [is the most overrated fighter in boxing].
“He’s been decreasing on his style, but people amp it up like he’s really got the goods.
“I’m looking forward to us finally facing [each other] in that squared circle, and really showing the world [that he’s overrated].”
After claiming world honours at featherweight and super-featherweight, Stevenson became world champion at 135lbs back in November 2023, and produced arguably the performance of his career in July when he defeated William Zepeda in New York to retain his WBC crown.
