Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
YMCA Nationals runner-up in the 1000 freestyle Brayden King has verbally committed to William & Mary for the class of 2026.
“I am extremely honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at William and Mary! I want to thank all of my coaches, my family, and friends for supporting me over the years. I would also like to thank the William and Mary coaching staff for giving me this amazing opportunity! GO TRIBE!!
”
King is from Crozet, Virginia where he attends West Albemarle High School and swims for Cavalier Aquatics/Piedmont Family YMCA.
At the end of March, he swam at the YMCA Short Course National Championships, where he grabbed three top-eight finishes in the distance events. His highest placement came in the 1000 free, where he swam 9:16.54 to finish 2nd overall. He finished 4th in both the 1650 free and 500 free, setting new personal best times of 15:33.76 and 4:31.60. He also swam the 200 freestyle, touching in 1:42.52 to finish 38th.
At the Class 3 State Championships in March, he finished 5th in the 200 free (1:46.15).
In 2024, he was named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American for the 2nd straight year. He will be the 2nd Division I swimmer in his family, joining his brother, David King, who swims at Virginia and made the USA Swimming National team this year after setting the 200 freestyle UVA record.
King’s SCY Best Times
- 200 free- 1:42.52
- 500 free- 4:31.60
- 1000 free- 9:16.54
- 1650 free- 15:33.76
William & Mary is a Division I school in the Coastal Athletic Association where the men’s team finished 5th last season.
King is a huge addition to their program, with his times last year placing him as a ‘B’ finalist in the 500 free and as the event runner-up in the 1650 free. He sits outside of scoring position in the 200 free with his time ranking him 32nd in the event.
On the William & Mary team, King would have been 7th in the 200 free and 1st in the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle. While the 1000 is not an NCAA or conference championships event, it is a dual meet event.
