Following the latest release of the Epstein files, claims made by the then Prince Andrew in a 2019 BBC Newsnight interview can be put under fresh scrutiny.
The BBC’s Sean Coughlan and Sarah Campbell have gone through the interview to compare Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s replies with emails which were apparently sent to and from the former prince.
He is facing growing pressure from US officials and the family of his prominent accuser, the late Virginia Giuffre, to testify in the US about his links to Jeffrey Epstein.
The disgraced financier was convicted in 2008 of procuring a child for prostitution and died by suicide in 2019, as he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges.
The BBC has contacted Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor for comment. He has previously denied any wrongdoing.
